Pitch and speed changer

Open a song from your phone or computer, slow it down without changing the pitch or move it to the key that suits your voice, loop the hard part and download the result as WAV. The audio never leaves your device.

Change the key and the tempo separately

Slowing a recording down usually drags the pitch down with it, and moving it to another key speeds it up. This tool keeps the two apart: the tempo goes from 50% to 150% with the pitch untouched, and the pitch moves up to an octave either way at the original tempo. It is made for singers who need a song in their key and for players learning a part by ear, and it runs in your browser with no account and no upload.

Open a song and change it

Your file stays on your device: nothing is uploaded and you need no account. Close the tab and it is gone.

Found the key and tempo that work? In Zoundroom, write them in the song’s note next to the lyric and the chords, and record your take right there, on iPhone, Android or in the browser.

How to practice a song in your key and at your tempo

  1. 1Open the audio file: an MP3 or M4A of the song, a rehearsal recording or your own demo. Links from YouTube or Spotify will not work: the tool needs the file itself.
  2. 2If you know the original key, pick it, then move the pitch a semitone at a time until the chorus sits comfortably. The tool shows the new key, so you can transpose the chords to match.
  3. 3To learn a fast or tricky passage, set the speed to 75% or 90%, then drag across the waveform (or press A and B while it plays) to loop just that part.
  4. 4Play or sing along until it feels easy, then raise the speed in small steps back to 100%. Small changes sound the most natural, so go further only when you need to.
  5. 5Download the WAV, the whole song or only the loop, to practice with it offline or to record your take over it.

Embed it on your site

Paste this code into your website, your school’s page or a lesson: the tool works inside the page, free, and links back to Zoundroom.

Frequently asked questions

Is this pitch and speed changer free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no account, no sign-up and no watermark. Open a file, change it and download as many WAV files as you like.

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is decoded and processed inside this browser tab, on your device; nothing is sent to Zoundroom or anyone else. When you close the tab, it is gone.

Can I slow down a song without changing the pitch?

Yes, that is what the speed slider does: from 50% to 150% of the original tempo while the notes stay in the same key. The pitch control does the reverse: it moves the key up or down by up to 12 semitones and keeps the tempo.

How many semitones should I move a song to sing it in my key?

Each semitone is one fret on a guitar or one key on a piano, and 12 semitones make an octave. If the highest note of the chorus strains, try −1 to −3; if the verse sinks too low, go up. To work it out from your range, use the What key should I sing in? tool.

Which files does it open, and how long can they be?

Anything your browser can decode: MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC and, in most browsers, OGG and FLAC, plus the soundtrack of many MP4 videos. Files can be up to 15 minutes long. The download is a 16-bit WAV that any player, DAW or audio editor opens.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes: in Safari on iPhone, in Chrome on Android and in any current desktop browser. On an iPhone, tap Play to start the sound; on older iOS versions, turn off silent mode if you hear nothing. Keep the tab open while the WAV is being prepared: on a phone it takes a little longer.

Does it remove the vocals, and does it sound like the original?

It does not remove or isolate vocals or instruments. Moderate changes (roughly 80% to 120% speed, or a few semitones) sound clean; at the extremes you will hear some smearing and a less natural voice. Use it to practice: changing the key or tempo of someone else’s recording does not give you the right to publish it.
