Paste a verse and see how many syllables each line has, word by word. Compare it with the line it should mirror and with the notes of your melody.
Counts show you a line that will rush or feel empty, but the melody has the last word. Use the numbers to compare lines, then sing them to confirm.
Leave a blank line between stanzas to compare them line by line. A label such as [Chorus] or Verse 2: names the stanza and is not counted.

There is no fixed number. Lines sung to the same melody should have similar counts and stresses; in a repeating verse, matching lines usually stay within one or two syllables of each other.
Sung syllables stretch and merge: "fire" can be one or two, "every" two or three. Type fi-re or fire=1 to tell the counter how you sing it.

Leave a blank line between stanzas. Each line is compared with the same line of the stanzas that share its label (Verse 1 and Verse 2, or every chorus) or, without labels, of the stanzas with the same number of lines. A line is flagged when it strays from the most common count by more than the margin you pick: exact, ±1 or ±2. If there are only two stanzas to compare, the first one is the reference.
